We all Scream for Primal Creamsicles!

It is ragweed season in Ontario, a time when I get snotty, made worse by dairy. I find most times of the year an occasional glass of moo juice I am okay with but in hard core allergy season, it makes me more snotty. TMI ?

As you all know I dabble with primal, and am very conscience of how much dairy and processed foods I eat. I am making an effort to eat less dairy until the ragweed season is done. I came across this recipe on a website called Heathful Pursuit. I love ice cream, even the NSA stuff is good but the sugar subs they use and the dairy are killer on my gut a couple of hours post consumption if you get my drift.

When I saw this recipe I felt it was like finding 20 bucks in an old pair of jeans. I plugged in the ingredients into Fitness Pal expecting the other shoe to drop and find these were a billion calories and therfore too good to be true. These have BUENO numbers, no dairy, protein, taste good, sugar free, contain electrolytes from the coconut water, low carb and could be considered primal.

Wtf!?? These are the perfect snack. I feel like a fat kid with a box of smarties.

Post Workout Creamsicles
From Leanne @ Heathful Pursuits

1 cup unsweetened coconut milk (you could used canned coconut milk here but the nuts would go up considerably)
1 large orange or 2 smaller mandarin oranges
1/2 avocado
1/4 cup coconut water (you can find this in the drink section in corner shops now)
1 scoop(1/3rd of a cup) of protein powder
2 medjool dates, pitted
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp of grated orange zest
1 tsp vanilla extract

Grab your blender of magic bullet and blend this up. It will be thick! I couldn’t keep my fingers out of the bowl.. the avocado gave this a really good mouth feel, like rich cream, without the dairy.
Freeze overnight in popsicle tray. My tray makes 7 popsicle.. must be a weird feng shu maker, odd numbers and all. I was able to get 8 popsicles out of this recipe, and I based my nuts on this.
I left my media card at home, but this is what they look like.. green but they taste oh so orange-a-licious.

Nuts on this are: 89 calories, 7 g net carbs, 1 g fat, 6 g protein, 5 g sugar (all natural)

here is a pic of mine… sassy and SO good. Ken thinks we could morph this into other flavours as it is rich like a pudding pop.

this is a good find. I’ll be giving this one a try. As to the $20 in an old pair of jeans – I’ll keep looking!

Chuck, give these a whirl and report back in if you feel I have over hyped them. I felt like I had scored big time post blending. I was wary about the avocado, as I have made a primal chocolate pudding that was a complete disaster. I was so surprised when these were actually good. Managing expectations is key I guess. Enjoy.
